A commission by Rebecca Heineman. Majesty, pomp, ceremony, and the glory that comes with being a Senshi of the Moon Kingdom, is difficult when you are nursing a bruised skull, made by the hot-headed Io (left), who, once again, picks a fight with Sailor Sun (seated left), while posing for a formal portrait on the throne, before the Moon Kingdom, in the background. Ganymede, and Callisto (right) look on with understandable shock and disgust...Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Sailor Sun's Punctured Portrait
A commission from Waylon Ballenger. In this fan story, Sailor Pluto, and her Knight, Sailor Charon, have been through a tremendous battle. They have reached the Door of Time and Space, described to me as blackened and with a 'Gate to Hell' feel. Although Pluto is the keeper of the gate, Charon feels he must protect, and keep her away from what lies inside, but, she loves him, and is afraid for him...Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Pluto and Charon
I originally intended a more grotesque background of destruction, since Saturn is known as the Senshi of Destruction, but I ended up experimenting with stained glass effects which I've been wanting to do for some time. So one can interpret this as her causing the destruction, or seeing the aftermath of it. This art is available as a print through Podgallery. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Pretty Soldier Sailor Saturn
A non-commissioned painting of another dark, fallen Senshi. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Dark Venus
Done for a fanart contest in 2003, this is in the category of Fan Senshi. The characters are Sailor Ida (right) and Sailor Eissa (left). They rule the worlds on the asteroid belt. Gouache on masonite.
Senshi of the Island Worlds
This is a commissioned painting of fan Senshi characters Sailor Sun and Sailor Io. They were target practicing in the desert, when an argument started, and the two set on each other! But, in the process, Io (dark hair) cannot get by Sun's plasma attack, with her magma blast. So, it's a stalemate...Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Sailor Sun Vs. Sailor Io
This is another of many character studies commissioned by Joe Rauchman, of Prince Derek. He is one of the few male characters affiliated with Sailor Moon (He is featured in 'Prince Derek and Queen Serenity' in this gallery) and is a warlock with dark powers. These characters studies are generally half the cost of regular commissions as they have a single color background. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Warlock Derek
This is a commission by Crystal Star Hime, of her Fan Senshi characters, (left to right) Sailor Aurora, Luminous Knight, Sailor Coronis, Igneous Knight, on the planet Naurelena, with the Lycoris Castle in the background. This took 1 week to paint. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Sailor Aurora on Naurelena
A commission from Lane Kramer (adapted from a pinup version) that gave me pretty much free rein to do Pluto as I wished. I gave the character a dark mood...Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Dark Pluto
This is a commission from Rebecca Heineman. It's the opening scene from her short story of the title of the art. Two of the most succesful series meet! Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Io are the only survivors of a nuclear attack, launched by Skynet, and, are targeted for termination, hunted by T-800 terminators and HK aerial units. They are ready to launch a counterattack, with Io's Phased Plasma gun, and Jupiters Lightning attack. Photoshop 6 W/Wacom Tablet
But It's What We Make...
Sailor Solaris (left) aka Selene LeBlanke, is a girl who has had tragedy, losing her planet Solaris (the Sun Kingdom), and eventually coming to Earth. A cousin of Sailor Moon, she is encouraged to join the Sailor Senshi in the present time, in Tokyo, but her bitterness and bad attitude eventually leaves her an outcast...Princess Sunna (right) living in Crystal Tokyo in the Silver Millenium, is Solaris future self, and the opposite, with a kind heart...The likenesses of both Solaris/Sunna, are that of the client/author.
Sailor Solaris and Princess Sunna
A commission by 'Sakky-Attack'. Sailor Astera and her cat Demetrius are angry... In a great battle in the 30th century, the kingdom of Astera's father is destroyed, and the planet Astera is smashed into pieces. In the ruins of her kingdom, she swears revenge on the one she believes is responsible - Sailor Moon. She and Demetrius travel back to the 20th century to take on Sailor Moon. The Adazuishou, the revenge crystal, is her father's only gift, to be used in dark magical attacks. Photoshop 6 w?wacom tablet
Sailor Astera
Done in 2001, this painting represented a break from Anime characters that are instantly recognizable to those of my own creation. Though Hotaru is the subject here, only her hair is recognizable. It is set at the end of the Sailor Moon series; I planned to do a series featuring all of the princesses at their home planet kingdoms. Gouache on masonite.
Princess of Saturn
Ever since I did 'Sailor Aquarius' (in this gallery) a few months back, I've been 'chomping at the bit' to do another Japanese style shrine painting, and, this commission by Rebecca Heineman gave me the opportunity. They are in front of Hino Rei's Shrine, and have their weapons. Ukyou Kuonji (Sailor Ganymede) is at right, with her giant Spatula (she's a chef), and Konatsu (Sailor Callisto) at left, has her Katana sword. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Sailor Ganymede and Sailor Callisto at the Hikawa Shrine
This is a commissioned character study (no background) of Joe Rauchmann's fan Senshi character Divine Sailor Moon. The staff and costume are variations of the original Sailor Moon costume designs. Time spent, approx 15 hrs. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Divine Sailor Moon
A commission from Lane Kramer in the 'Dark Senshi' series (Dark Pluto was the first) which was converted from a pinup. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Dark Mars
Princess Ami can only show a tiny bit of the 800 degree heat of the Mercury sunlight. This painting won best of show at SakuraCon 2002, in Seattle, WA. Though I'd won artshow awards in the past at Sci-Fi cons, I felt a very special satisfaction with the Anime awards - in it's own way, it was almost like starting over again. Acrylic on masonite.
Princess of Mercury
This is a commissioned piece of Joe Rauchman's fan character Derek. Derek is a Prince described to me as having dark magical powers. Joe wanted a bit of juxtaposition of Serenity's light magic, and Derek's dark magic. The setting is the throne in Crystal Tokyo. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Prince Derek and Queen Serenity
Another commissioned Senshi painting by is of the lead character of Rebecca Heineman's 'Sailor Ranko' of the 10th Senshi, Sailor Sun, to join the Sailor Moon crew, and, fight the demons and youmas trying to take over Tokyo...In the story, Sun was a reject long ago, trying out as a Senshi, and, spent time on a space station, trying to absorb and utilize to power of the sun. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Sailor Sun Transformation
Commissioned by Rebecca Heineman. Sailor Sun battles Godzilla '98 in Tokyo!
She calls for renforcements of the Senshi. This is my first Godzilla work, in 30 years of painting. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
The Harder They Fall
This is commission from Rebecca Heineman's 'Sailor Ranko' web comic series. In this scene, Sailor Sun and Sailor Jupiter are violently interrogating Yab, a student at the high school, who is a youma in disguise. Akane has been kidnapped, and, Sun and Jupiter think Yab knows Akane's whereabouts. In the process of the interrogation, Yab, rather than tell them, shatters her energy crystal, and turns to dust, killing herself. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet
Yab's Demise
This was painted in oils in 2002, and remains one of my favorite Sailor Moon fanarts. It hangs in our living room to this day... It was based on a request from my daughter Rachel, to have me do a 'kitty with wings'. My other daughter Monica was the model for this art.  Oil on masonite.
Chibi Moon with Fairy Kitten
This is a commissioned painting for the website of John Biles' story of Sailor Moon Z. It features Sailor Moon and Sailor Odysseus in front of the ruins of the Moon Kingdom Palace with a starscape in the sky behind them. Sailor Odysseus wears a version of the Senshi uniform whose dominant color is 'starscape', which is to say it's black with stars, nebula, galaxies, etc. visible in it, as if it was a window into the night sky. They are warily searching the area, alert for danger. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Sailor Moon and Sailor Odysseus
This is a commission from Joe Rauchman of his two characters, Lilith (in the Fantasy gallery) and Warlock Derek (in this gallery) locked in combat using their magical powers. The ruins of the Moon Kingdom lie in the background. Available as a print from Podgallery. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
