This was part of a sub series that came after the original series in late 1986. It had very small kits, but newer features. Oil on masonite.
Flying Enemy Excursion
One of the first of the series, I had some trouble coming up with strong catchy colors, until expert art direction by Liz Durazo resulted in coming up with bright color combination using the Goethe color theory which set the pace for the entire series art. Oil on masonite.
Land Enemy
I was pushed hard to make the colors brilliant, which was why I was hired. I always felt my art was appealing to younger audiences, and I did the Deep Space Nine series for young readers for Pocket books, and a few other occasional works, but I never fully broke into the children's books market.
This was a scaled down version of the larger motorized vehicles and sold cheaper. The box was about 10
Land Enemy
A nice cave scene made this one of my favorite of the Excursion series. Oil on masonite.
Land Enemy Excursion
This was another large kit to be a companion to the Large Land Enemy kit. Oil on masonite.
Large Flying Friendly
One of the best paintings in the 14 box covers I did for Tonka Toys
Motorized Land Enemy
This was one of a sub group of motorized toys within the series. All of the toys were similar to Lego toys in that you could interchange pieces to make variations of designs. Oil on masonite.
Motorized Land Friendly
In 1985, I was commissioned to do 14 box paintings for Tonka Toys
Motorized Land Walker
This kit included a large motorized enemy design (enemy kits came in red, friendly, blue) set that could be made into the design I painted here. Oil on masonite.
