This commissioned art is my first comic book cover. It is from 'Earthglider: The American UFO Project', by Marlin Stramel, and Alex Degruchy. It has symbolism, as well as the Earthglider ship in the background. The 2 main characters are Captain Richard Talbert, and Laurel Voss, shown with their spacesuits. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom Tablet.

Beam Piper. Here a northern breed of Fuzzy begins a rampage of war, after being provoked by humans on the Fuzzy Reservation. The southern Fuzzies take on their Northern kin, in an epic battle! Don Slade, veteran of Hammers Slammers, a hover-tank unit, travels from planet to planet, fighting battles, as merceneries for hire. Gouache on masonite 15

Yet another David Drake book, one of my favorite paintings, done in Casein paint, which was rare for me. Casein is similar to Oil, but dries like gouache and can be reworked.
Fortress

H. Beam Piper Portrait
From the book by Greg Bear. Published by Tor Books 1988. This was a very interesting story about fantastically tall sets of obelisks, which have information written on them. As the reader goes higher, the knowledge written, becomes more advanced, leading to more advanced technology required, to read further...To get the feel, I forced a worms-eye perspective on the obelisks. These guys have a lot of learning to do...
Hegira
In the 1990's, I did a series of covers for Popular Mechanics magazine. PM specialized in futuristic speculation, and my sci-fi background, landed me a job as a semi-regular freelance art contributer starting in 1986. This was the July 1995 cover.
Humanoids Among Us
Originally done for the cover of the Feb. 1987 cover of Science Fiction Analog Magazine, it was inspired by a previous Analog cover by Kelly Freas. It was sold many years ago, and the current owner offered a hi-res scan. I had a transparency, but the expence of conversion to digital, delayed posting this until now. Oil on masonite.
In The Kingdom At Morning
From the book by Charles L. Harness, published by Avon Books, around 1987. Similar in idea to 'Terra Nova', this story is about time travellers starting a new colony on Earth in prehistoric times. Oil on masonite
Krono
Agent Elle appeared in the series 'Men In Black', and, for those that have seen both the movies and series, it's filled with lots of aliens. The one shown here is of my own design. The device in her left hand is the flash thingy that renders all who see it without memory of the events suggested by the operator (Elle in this case) so you're not supposed to remember the alien you see here...Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
MIB Agent Elle
Of all the authors whose art I did covers for, Gordon R. Dickson, was my favorite. I've done more for other writers, and gotten work from many others, whom I'm grateful for, but Gordon's stories were always engaging, with great morals to the story and insight. For this 1985 book published by Tor Books, I wanted to give the reader the sense of helplessness I got from the story. So I forced the perspective to make the viewer identify with the protagonist.
On The Run
A commission from John F. Carr's anthology from the Warworld CoDominium series, set on the Planet Haven during the late 21st century. Here, CoDominium Marines, battle for contol of Haven, with a fanatical Islamic Jihad army, led by the 'Mahdi', as they storm the Marines position on the high ground. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom Tablet

The cube holds a strange power to alter gravity. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Stranded
A commissioned cover for Doug Richards book 'Stranded'. This is one of two paintings shown in this gallery. This is the actual cover art. The other is an unused sketch. This shows the team of Earth scientists in a protective energy dome, warped into a hostile planet called Isis. Photoshop 6 w/Wacom tablet.
Stranded 2
From the book by Harry Harrison, published by Tor books 1985. This was originally painted as you see here, but, as can happen in book publishing, the colors were mis-read by the printers, and the background color ended up with more orange. Often, type, cropping and color changes ruined the designs intended. In this story, a Hollywood director uses a time machine to find authentic characters from history for his movies, and avoid union fees...
Technicolor Time Machine
From the book by H. Beam Piper, commissioned and published by Peqoud Press. On the planet Poictesme, a legendary super computer named 'Merlin' is said to hold all the knowledge and power, that will save a war-torn humanity, from itself. Here, the location is finally discovered, underground, underneath a shell of white collapsium-hardest known substance to man-and using an anti-gravitational cutting machine of a rotating beam of cosmic rays, to open. Other machines and a crowd, stand by to observe the historic moment. But will the twists and turns of intrigue in the story, reveal the holy grail of answers, or still more questions?
The Cosmic Computer
From the story by Melissa Scott, published by Baen Books in 1987.
Rebecca Davies, was one of my favorite models. She designed and wore her costumes, and, she was able to come up with the costume in this art.
The original story is the conclusion of the Silence Leigh trilogy (Five-Twelfths of Heaven, Silence In Solitude) of the star pilot and mage, returning to Earth, from the stars-along with her two husbands!

A commissioned book cover from John F. Carr for his alternative history novel, set in the USA in 1947, as an undefeated Axis, lays waste to New York City.
